Welcome to Fotomedic! Here's what to know about me...

Hey, friends. Chris Matthews, the original Fotomedic here. I hear there are other people now using my name, but this has been mine from Day One, at least nine years ago, if not longer, I'm the original, genuine Fotomedic. I love public safety photography and graphic design, and I have decided it is high time to get off my rear end and start sharing my work professionally and not just recreationally.

In the mean time, did you know that I have profiles on deviantArt, ViewBug, and Art Amino? In fact, on ViewBug, I have been critically acclaimed, and I often place in the top 25% of many photo contests with well over 100,000 entrants? I have also been a curator on the site for a couple years now, helping draw attention to new members and photographers. I have also been a winner of other, independent photo contests. I am no Ansel Adams, but I feel it is fair to say I am a pretty decent photographer.

I prefer to shoot public safety, wildlife, and landscapes. I am a semi-pro photographer. I have even shot Senior Portraits, although I don't do portrait photography often. Most of my shooting is recreational. I prefer good photo composure over "spray and pray" with a heavy emphasis on post-processing. I am competent in Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, and Fireworks. I have contracted to prepare logos and basic artwork upon request. I even designed a series of logos and patches for the State of Nevada's Office of EMS. I can do custom logo design for you too. I also design clothing, patches, and even books under the moniker "Black Cloud Designs", selling my images on shirts, PopSockets, hoodies, and more on Amazon (with free Prime shipping!), Etsy, Teespring, and other vendors. If you want a custom promotional textile designed, drop me a line and I'll be happy to work on contract with you too!

So in addition to the blogging of my photo adventures, I also anticipate sharing my encounters with photo equipment that piques my interest. As my primary persona, The Unwired Medic, I often attend the annual CES event in Las Vegas and have exposure to the latest offerings by Sony, Canon, Nikon, Olympus, Targus, Manfrotto, and Sigma, and more, plus their accessory vendors. I may choose to highlight findings there and in my encounters abroad, or I may share products I come across in photo stores and on Amazon, or elsewhere.

What else about me? Why are you Foto"medic"?

I am a service-connected, disabled Marine Corps veteran. Actually that's what led me to work in EMS of all things. I have been in EMS since 1994, working in prehospital, flight, military, and hospital arenas. I have worked urban, suburban, rural, and super-rural EMS too. Somewhere along the line, I realized there were an awful lot of publications and sites using pics from modern European public safety and from American public safety that were decades old. That's not cool. If I can't always be the caregiver, I can take some good photos of the action. I want to have some of my work featured in modern publications to show what's recent in medicine. Why not? I've already done substantial textbook reviewer contributions. It's pretty cool seeing your name in the list of credits in a textbook that will be used by thousands of EMT's and Paramedics! I also work in IT and post-secondary education. Want to know more about me? Hit me up on a Twitter conversation and DM me or start a chat with a tag to @fotomedic. I'm on Pinterest too.

Last thing is one of my prides and joys, my English Bulldog, Winston "Gunny" McSquishyface. He's got his own social media persona. Just a small following, but we'd love to have you follow him. You can find the links on his blog, gunnywear.blogspot.com. He's got attitude, wrinkles, and cankles to spare and he loves his people, food, and family.

Disclaimer - Honest and Up Front

I am absolutely interested in licensing my photos. If you are interested in licensing my works, please contact me at cdm@fotomedic.net. All photos are copyrighted. Intellectual Property theft is still theft, and I will pursue my legal options to protect my rights. If you have the time and effort to steal other peoples' work, then you truly have the ability to create your own works and I believe in you - you can learn just like I did. If you need to learn how, I can point you to some tutorials. No one is born with the innate knowledge to be photo and graphic design experts. We all learned somewhere, and truth be told, it wasn't that hard.

Not everything I do and share will result in me having an affiliate link. Often I will share stuff just for the sake of pure interest and excitement.I blog about it. I think it is neat stuff, and that may be all there is to it. However, I may occasionally share stuff via an affiliate link and could receive a commission for it, whether you just click or whether you buy the item. If I do have an affiliate link, I will disclose that in the post. It's only fair to know when you are looking at sponsored content and I want to be totally above board here. I may not own the sponsored content. I may just be interested in it and want to share it, and it may also just be offered by a place I am an affiliate for, so if you purchase, I claim no responsibility for any part of the transaction. I'm just showing you it exists.

I review products professionally. Usually that means I am given the product with the expectation of a review, but never will I accept compensation for a positive review. I have more integrity than to accept bribes for good press. You should have a good product or not sell it, period. If I don't like something, I won't defame a product on my blog. I'll just not share it. If a company wanting me to review a product tries to rip me off, believe me, I will crucify them here. It's happened before. So if you see me post a detailed review here, it's because I liked the product, or I liked it and had some feedback for improvement and product development, which is what the company was looking for anyways. I won't push crap here. I also post reviews on Amazon, and those can be brutally honest, because bad products and bad services deserve bad reviews on sites like that.

That's it. Integrity and honesty.
